Our People

Board Of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is currently made up of a ratio of 3:4 surrogates:intended parents. This is a conscious decision on all parts to reflect and represent the ratio of Surrogacy UK members.

Sarah Jones – Chairperson

Sarah JonesI joined Surrogacy UK over 14 years ago, as a potential surrogate who really connected to the Friendship First ethos.  I gave birth to my first surrogate baby in 2004, my second in 2005 and after completing my own family, returned to give birth to my third surrogate baby in 2013 and my fourth in 2016. The Friendship First ethos really worked for me and I can count my 3 sets of IPs as true and strong friends, with my children seeing them as special Aunts and Uncles.  I am lucky to have experienced these relationships and felt that I wanted to give back to the organisation and people that had made these life changing journeys possible.  I have volunteered with the organisation for many years, in various roles and eventually joined the Board of Trustees in 2013. Email Sarah

Leyla Hutchings – Treasurer

Leyla HutchingsMy husband Richard and I went to our first Surrogacy UK event in March 2010. Thanks to the help of countless people at Surrogacy UK (not least our surrogate Rachael, her husband James and their family), our first surrobaby Zeki was born in May 2014! We couldn’t have got here without the support of the organisation and it makes it even more special to know that much of that support is given on a voluntary basis. I am delighted to be able to chip in with my little bit of help to the Surrogacy UK community in the hope that Surrogacy UK will continue to go from strength to strength and other Intended Parents like us and Surrogates looking to create a family can see their dreams come true.  Email Leyla

Ali Buxton – Trustee

ali-buxtonI joined Surrogacy UK in 2014 as I wanted to experience pregnancy and help create families.  I don’t have children on my own and have always been keen to carry while deciding if I want my own.

I’m so proud to have met two very special couples along the way.  The first didn’t go as planned but that is the very nature of surrogacy, it has its ups and its downs, plus we are still very good friends.  My second couple I am proud to have helped them to become a family.  I gave birth to their twins.  It was at 27 weeks so it was much earlier than expected however it shows a true testament to the bond, friendship, trust, honesty and communication needed for a journey and I am a very proud auntie to the twins.  I cannot wait to do it again.

I am a very proud member of Surrogacy UK and have made some great friends within the community.  I am 32 and have been married to my very supportive husband now for 2 years.  I am also a step mum of his twin 8 year olds, so I am completely surrounded by boys!  Email Ali

Caroline Evans – Trustee

I joined Surrogacy UK in 2013 to fulfil my dream of being a surrogate.  I am single and have a 12 year old daughter, and cannot imagine the pain of not being able to have a child of my own.  Initially, I wanted to experience pregnancy again without the responsibility of another child at the end of it, but as I became more involved with the organisation, I really embraced the “friendship first” ethos.  I am passionate about educating people and making altruistic surrogacy more accessible in the UK.  Email Caroline

David Pexton-Hayes – Trustee

My husband and I joined Surrogacy UK in the Summer of 2014 and with the help of Katie we had our daughter in December 2016.  From the outset we were impressed by how professional yet friendly Surrogacy UK were, giving us confidence in each step of our journey.  We were drawn to Surrogacy UK’s ethos of friendship first and altruistic surrogacy and when we joined we were amazed by the level of support that carried us through both the good and the bad times without which we wouldn’t have our daughter.

We have made many good friends along the way and joining Surrogacy UK has been the best decision we ever made.  I’m constantly amazed by how everyone in our community works hard to keep Surrogacy UK shining bright and I’m really happy to be a part of this amazing team.  I hope together we can help many more people, both Intended Parents and Surrogates, achieve their dreams.  I look forward to meeting you one day.

Alan McLellan – Trustee

My partner and I joined Surrogacy UK in 2013 and have since become fathers, thanks to the very special help of Ellena and her family.  From our very first Surrogacy UK meeting we have felt that the warmth, support and advice that is offered by our fellow members has been invaluable in helping us on our journey, which continues today as our son starts to appreciate how he came to be.

My life has been transformed by friendship-based, altruistic surrogacy and I’m proud to help Surrogacy UK champion this model in the UK and help our future parents and surrogates have their own successful journeys

Dawn Allen – Administration Manager

Dawn AllenI’m Dawn and have recently taken on the role of Surrogacy UK’s Administration Manager as well as overseeing Surrogate Support & Liaison for all our surrogate members.
I joined back in 2008 along with my husband and 2 boys and over the years the organisation has become like a huge, extended family for us as we’ve made so many good friends, surrogates and intended parents. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to witness so many friendships and families created and have ran many membership sessions for potential surrogates & IPs as well as the wonderful team agreement sessions too.
I’ve been lucky enough to help create 2 families with couples who have become such important parts of our lives. It’s the best feeling ever, seeing people who over time become great friends, go on to become amazing parents and to play a part in that is such an honour and a privilege. So much so that I’ve recently started another journey with another amazing couple, who we’re currently in the stages of ‘Getting To Know’ with, so lots of chats and giggles ahead.
As part of my role, I’m responsible for helping and guiding all potential surrogates through the joining process for Surrogacy UK, from initial enquiry to completing applications to becoming members and making that all important ‘Call’ for them to a couple they’d like to ‘Get To Know’. Plus everything else in between. I oversee our surrogate support network which is made up of designated local, experienced surrogates for every member as well as organising a team’s important agreement session before they head off on their next step of their journey together.
Please feel free to contact me if you’re interested in becoming a surrogate or if would like any information on becoming a surrogate and what it involves.  Email Dawn

Kate Dobb – Projects and Communications Manager

Due to childhood cancer I was unable to carry a pregnancy and had all but given up hope of becoming a mum. When a doctor suggested surrogacy as a positive way of having a child we found Surrogacy UK and have never looked back! Our twins were born in 2014, thanks to our amazing friend and surrogate, Mikki. We treasure the friendship we have with Mikki and our twins are great friends with her children too.

I am passionate about altruistic surrogacy and I’m proud to be working in a role enabling me to spread the word about just how wonderful surrogacy can be.

Helen Greenwood – Intended Parent Support Manager

HelenI joined SUK as an Intended Parent in 2013, and have enjoyed being a part of a supportive community. I took on the role of Forum Admin earlier this year, which means I give users access to the SUK message boards, and welcome them onto the boards. I’m also now involved in coordinating support for Intended Parents as IP Support Manager.  I have gained so much support from the SUK community since joining, and I’m happy to be able to give something back. That’s what makes SUK so great – no matter what stage you’re at on your ‘journey’, there will be people to support you. Email Helen

Karla Nicolaou – Membership Secretary

KarlaMy name is Karla and I’ve been involved with Surrogacy UK as Membership Secretary since 2009.  Very good friends of mine had my God-Daughter through SUK which is how I became involved with the organisation; seeing friendships and families being created makes my job so rewarding each and every day.  I’m here to help potential members in answering any questions or queries and hope to make the joining process as easy and straight forward as possible for them. Email Karla

Hazel Palmer

My partner and I joined Surrogacy UK in 2013 to start a new journey and hopefully create our little family.   Following treatment after being diagnosed with Cervical Cancer our consultant mentioned that surrogacy would be a way to achieve our dream of becoming a family. In 2015 our daughter Jade was born with the help of Sam and her family.  We now have our little family which would not have been possible with the love and support of Surrogacy UK.  Sam and her family are now our extended family who we are forever thankful for.
I enjoy working with the Surrogacy UK team to bring projects and initiatives to life so that they are implemented with the view of supporting our members and overall organisation. Email Hazel
